More about John

John grew up watching waders and brent geese on the salt marshes of the south coast. He now lives on the west coast of Scotland where he and his son recorded their neighbouring white-fronted geese for Tweet of the Day.

He worked for some years as a researcher and producer in the Film Unit of the RSPB then became a wildlife cameraman. With his wife he has produced and filmed several Natural World programmes for BBC2 on life in a wood near Oxford, about Iceland, otters on the west coast and how amber can be used to reconstruct the past, the latter presented by David Attenborough.

As a cameraman he has worked on many series including: Frozen Planet, Big Cat Diary, Autumnwatch and, most recently, Hebrides – Islands on the Edge.

He has also written and presented three series of A View Through a Lens for BBC Radio 4 about filming wildlife.

He often tweets about filming and conservation as @JohnAitchison1
