Dawn French: ‘We need to make sure that we are noticeable'
The post-menopausal years are mired in cliche. Women can find themselves described variously as invisible, afraid of change, unemployable or just plain 'past it'. But is that how women in their 50s and 60s see themselves? Or is 'the third act' proving a golden opportunity for self-acceptance, reinvention and making the most of life?
Dawn French is one woman who, after a hugely successful career in TV, theatre and film, started publishing novels in her 50s. Her fourth novel, Because Of You, has been longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction. She offers advice to women in their 50s and 60s that feel society views them as invisible or less than younger women.
