Call for US Sudan terror designation to be dropped
Sudanese hopes that there would be an improvement to the economy after the peaceful overthrow of Omar al-Bashir have failed to materialise. One reason for this is that Sudan is on a list of countries that the US designates as State Sponsors of Terror. The designation makes it difficult for Sudan to get loans from international financial institutions. Prominent Sudanese have signed an open letter to President Trump calling for the designation to be dropped. Dr Sara Abdelgalil, the president of the UK branch of the Sudan Doctors Union, is one of them.
