Cricket World Cup is about participation
ICC World Cup managing director Steve Elworthy says the competition is about increasing participation. The former South-Africa international explained that apart from aiming for a profitable tournament it’s maybe even more about participation. “We’ve gone out and we said we want to engage a million children under 16 through the course of this World Cup.” Talking to Jonathan Legard on 5 live Sportsweek, Elworthy said it would be ‘huge for the sport’ if they can attract 10 to 15 % of those million kids to the sport.
