The Snowdrop by Hans Christian Andersen
It's New Year and snow lies upon the ground. Under the earth the Snowdrop is warm and snug inside her bulb. A ray of winter sunshine reaches the Snowdrop and she reaches towards the light and is born into the world. But the North Wind tells her she has arrived to soon - she can't possibly survive the coming storm. The Snowdrop battles through the night against the winter weather...and in the morning is proud to be recognised as the very first flower of the New Year, and a welcome reminder that winter will soon be over.
