Unlikely QPR friends finally meet after 49 years

Two QPR fans have finally met, 49 years after a forming an unlikely friendship between a US soldier fighting in the Vietnam War and an 11-year-old boy in Slough.

Nils Guy was only 22-years-old when he was called up for military service with orders overseas in Vietnam after he had emigrated to the US from Surrey.

He wrote a letter which was published in the QPR match day programme, asking if anyone would be interested in sending him clippings on how his club was doing.

11-year-old John Wild sent him match programmes and letters.

The pair were recently guests at Loftus Road and took in Rs’ win against Brentford. John said it was “surreal” to finally meet Nils.
