Challenging and reframing the depiction of black women in art
A new exhibition in New York is trying to explore and challenge the way that black women have been depicted in modern art. 'Posing Modernity: The Black Model from Manet and Matisse to Today', traces the progression and diversity of black women portrayed in art works by world famous artists like Matisse. Newsday's Bola Mosuro spoke to art scholar and the exhibition's curator Denise Murrell.
