Will this fish help us treat spinal cord injuries?

They look like eels and are said to be the oldest known vertebrates. Lamprey fish have several genes that repair injured spinal cords. US scientists have found out that many of these genes are also active in the repair of the peripheral nervous system in mammals. This could lead to new therapeutic development for people. Doctor Ona Bloom from the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in New York is one of the scientists behind the discovery.
