How listening to your heart aids empathy

Scientists asked volunteers to count their heartbeats without feeling a pulse to see how aware they were of internal bodily sensations. The volunteers were then shown video clips of social interactions which tested their ability to "read the minds" of the characters. Those who had counted their heart beats most accurately were better at answering questions relating to the emotions of the characters.
