White House Briefing on North Korea for the Entire U.S. Senate

Top US officials will hold a classified briefing on North Korea at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

The Brazilian footballer, Bruno Fernandes, who was jailed for the kidnap and murder of his girlfriend, has been ordered back to prison by the Brazilian Supreme Court. Fernandes had served less than a third of his 22 year sentence for the crime, in which he admitted to conspiring with friends to murder his girlfriend Eliza Samudio and feed her body to dogs.

The world's groundwater provides drinking water and irrigation for billions of people around the world. Much of the groundwater is old, having been stored beneath the Earth's surface for many thousands of years. Until now it had been widely assumed this water was immune to contamination from human activity but a new study suggests it may be vulnerable to just that. Newsday chats to co author of the study, Scott Jasechko of University of Calgary.
