Cash for new grammar schools in £320m Budget plan
Angela Rayner and Toby Young respond to the Chancellor's plans to fund grammar schools
Extra money for new free schools and grammar schools in England will be announced by the Chancellor in his Budget on Wednesday.
Philip Hammond will confirm a one-off payment of £320m for 140 new free schools, on top of the 500 already pledged to be created by 2020.
Labour's Angela Rayner describes grammar schools as a "vanity project" but Toby Young, director of the New Schools Network, says more school places are urgently needed and free schools are the most cost effective way of delivering them.
