Ethiopian opposition leader arrested after Europe trip
A prominent opposition leader in Ethiopia has been detained after he returned from Europe. The state-linked media reported that Merera Gudina had violated Ethiopia's state of emergency by having contact with "terrorist" and "anti-peace" groups.
Mr Merera criticised the state of emergency in an address to the European parliament on 9 November. He was there at the invitation of Portuguese MEP, Ana Gomes. She told Newsday that she wants to see action from governments in Europe.
