Darfur referendum: What is at stake?
People in Darfur have begun voting in its referendum, despite continued fighting and instability in the region.
The vote will determine whether Darfur will remain as five separate states or form a single region. It is part of a peace process between the Sudanese government and rebels who want more autonomy.
Some groups are boycotting the vote, saying it lacks credibility. But President Omar al-Bashir has said conditions are in place for a free and fair referendum.
