Dog discovered at US Naval Base after five weeks lost at sea

A German Shepherd that went missing after falling from a fishing boat has been found alive five weeks later. Luna was presumed dead, and was being mourned on her owner Nick Haworth on his facebook account.

She is assumed to have swum two miles from the boat to an island which is home to a navy training base, where weapon testing is carried out.

Sandy Demunil, who is spokeswoman for the Naval Base Coronado said “there are no domestic animals on the island, so when they [marines] saw the dog they all thought ‘where the heck did the dog come from?’”

“That is the most amazing dog, we send people out there for serious training, and she did it all on her own.”
