Drogba has the qualities to become a "great leader"
Didier Drogba "wants to become a coach under Guus Hiddink" says ex-boss Guy Lacombe.
Didier Drogba has the "qualities to be a great manager and really motivate players", according to his former manager and mentor at Le Mans Guy Lacombe. Drogba has been strongly linked with a return to Chelsea to work as a coach under Guus Hiddink at Stamford Bridge, but currently has a contract with Major League soccer side Montreal.
According to Lacombe, Drogba has "such an aura about him. Now he has to take the time, like Zidane, to really understand the mechanics of coaching".
Lacombe gave Drogba his big break when he signed him in 2002. In the acknowledgements of his book "commitment" Drogba thanks Lacombe "who strongly believed in me."
At the time Drogba was struggling for first-team football at Le Mans in the French second division. 18 months and 20 league goals later he joined Marseille and then a year later signed for Chelsea for £24 million.
Lacombe now helps the next generation of coaches, working with the French Football Federation and he recently worked a Zinedine Zidane's "tutor" when the new Real Madrid boss was studying for his UEFA Pro Licence.
