Heavy shooting has been heard in a Paris suburb as anti-terrorist police hunt for suspects linked to Friday's deadly attacks. A senior Kurdish official in Iraq says the Islamic State group could be defeated within weeks if western leaders made a concerted effort. President Obama has criticised his Republican opponents for demanding a halt to a government programme to admit Syrian refugees, in the wake of the Paris killings.
