Climber thanks volunteers who 'saved my life'

An outdoor pursuits instructor who fell 250ft in the Lake District suffering 27 broken bones and a punctured lung says mountain rescue volunteers "saved" his life.

Phil Longbottom was working in the Langdales in 2013 when he fell from the top of a cliff and needed assistance from the Langdale / Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team.

"I was conscious when I fell and conscious when I landed. I had just about enough in me to realise that I needed to be moved" said Longbottom who has now returned to work.

"First up an air ambulance arrived after about 40 minutes. Then after maybe about an hour the ground crew of mountain rescue arrived. I can't explain how grateful I am for their services", he added.
