The episode begins with a gas attack and the company sustains a number of casualties. Later Tommo shares his last letters from home, including one sent by Charlie while still away on leave. The company know that a 'push' is coming and they are allowed a final evening of leave to relax in 'Pop'. Tommo is hoping to see Anna again but cannot find her. When he speaks to Anna's father he has bad news. Charlie returns from leave and Tommo watches as he and Sgt Hanley meet each other for the first time since leaving Etaples training camp. Then it is time for the attack...time to go 'over the top'.
