Sue Townsend’s The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year

Amazingly, It has been THIRTY years since the writer Sue Townsend introduced the world to the spotty, bespectacled Adrian Mole – the character made Townsend’s name and she says he was largely based on herself. Her new book, The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year, is also semi-autobiographical. Sue Townsend has been talking to Lynn Barber about novels, illness and her latest protagonist, Eva Beaver.
