The Blue Planet: Deep Trouble

Dr Martha Holmes looks at man's influence on the oceans. Is there a solution so that we can save our seas or is it too late to get us out of Deep Trouble?

Sister programme to BBC series The Blue Planet. One of the producers of the series, Dr Martha Holmes, looks at human influence on the seas. With modern fishing technology, humans can fish almost anywhere in the world and little can escape. Most of us have no idea where the fish we buy come from let alone how endangered they are. Martha dives to explore different marine habitats around the world. She discovers that in the Philippines coral reefs are dying. In Australian waters deep sea animals are being wiped out, and in the UK everyday fish that we buy in supermarkets are under threat. But a marine scientist in York might just have the answer to the world's fishing problems.
