Bruno explores how the same plots and themes appear in today’s soap operas as in the grand operas of yesterday.

His enthusiasm and energy knows no bounds. Dancer, choreographer, and Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli returns to Radio 2 with a third series celebrating his greatest passion - opera. Top Cs, broken hearts, murdering mothers, sparkling cadenzas and record breaking curtain calls - that's what we have in store as Bruno brings the red and gold of the world's finest opera houses to your front room via Radio 2

In this third programme Bruno explores how the same plots and themes appear in today’s soap operas as in the grand operas of yesterday . EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and the Archers – how Puccini and Verdi would have loved them! Feisty females, moody men, cops and robbers, feuding families, long-lost parents romances, bromances and love triangles. Bruno reveals that opera too has its equivalents of Ken Barlow and Kat Slater. Excerpts include Una Voce Poco Fa from the Barber of Seville(Rossini), Mon Coeur S’Ouvre a ta Voix from Samson and Delilah(Saint-Saens) and Spirito Gentil from La Favorita(Donizetti). Plus a fiery bravura performance by Maria Callas as Tosca.
