The BBC Philharmonic live from MediaCityUK in Salford

Elizabeth Alker presents the BBC Philharmonic playing music by Beethoven and Malcolm Arnold, live from MediaCityUK in Salford.

Live from MediaCityUK in Salford the BBC Philharmonic perform Beethoven's 3rd Piano Concerto. The soloist is the young German pianist Elisabeth Brauss who is currently a member of Radio 3's New Generation Artists Scheme as has been praised for “the maturity and sophistication of her thoughtful interpretations” The concert concludes with Malcolm Arnold's riotous Commonwealth Christmas Overture which was commissioned by the BBC in 1957 to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the sovereign's Christmas broadcasts.
