Ep 78 - Maxine Peake joins
Shaun is making some noise in between songs so the emergency tape doesn’t kick in. Plus, Maxine Peake joins in the final hour to chat about her new play Avalanche: A Love Story
Shaun give another caller a chance to tell their brilliantly daft Claim to Fame on air in Small Claims Court and Shaun has an Album of the Day track from Gang Of Four's Happy Now album. Plus, Maxine Peake joins in the final hour to chat about her new play Avalanche: A Love Story. The play is about one woman’s compelling story of hope and longing.
Maxine also chats with Shaun about working with Johnny Marr and her upcoming new play - The Nico Project which is based around the life of the German singer Nico who became one of Andy Warhol's superstars, singing with The Velvet Underground. Leaving the group after their classic 1967 debut, she then released the dense, dark album 'The Marble Index' in 1968. The play focuses on this album, as Maxine tells Shaun - "It takes you to uncomfortable places, but it's beautiful at the same time. And I'm just fascinated with people who allow that to really seep out of them, to express that and to go to those places that most of us try to avoid."
All this plus Matt Everitt chats with Stephen Duffy in the Music News and there is new music from Ride.
