Classical Crossover with Danielle de Niese
World-renowned opera star Danielle de Niese invites listeners to share her passion for classical crossover music.
World-renowned opera star Danielle de Niese shares her knowledge and passion for classical crossover music, playing tracks by some of the top classical artists who have crossed over to become hugely successful in the mainstream music world.
Australian-American Danielle has been described as “opera’s coolest soprano”. At the age of nine she won an Australian TV talent show singing a medley of Whitney Houston songs, going on to become a crossover star in her own right.
Her journey begins with The Three Tenors, Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, who brought a combination of opera, folk song and musical theatre to a vast television audience, laying the foundations for the fashion for classical crossover.
Her choices also include tracks by such major crossover stars as Andrea Bocelli, Charlotte Church, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Renée Fleming as well as new music by her friend Alfie Boe.
She also explores unlikely but hugely successful collaborations between the classical and pop worlds, such as that by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé.
