Sophie Raworth's grandfather was one of the first pilots in the newly-formed RAF. Sophie finds out what life was really like for those pioneers in the skies.
As the RAF celebrates the centenary of its formation, Sophie Raworth follows the story of her grandfather, a pilot in the RAF's predecessor, The Royal Flying Corps. Using clues among his possessions, Sophie pieces together his experiences and those of other young men who fought and died above the battlefields of France and Belgium.
