Friday - BBC National Orchestra of Wales

Katie Derham features the BBC NOW. Tabakova: Fantasy Homage to Schubert. Martland: Crossing the Border. Fitkin: Intimate Curve. Plus Vaughan Williams, Bliss and Lynne Plowman.

Katie Derham concludes her series of British music in a week also celebrating International Women's Day (Wednesday) with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Dobrinka Tabakova pays homage to Schubert and there's another chance to hear Lynne Plowman's Blue - which won the BBC NOW Young Composers Competition back in 1995. Bliss explores the associations of heraldic colours in his symphony, and Vaughan Williams adds the delicate sounds of a wordless chorus to orchestral strings in his brilliantly original viola concerto. Steve Martland and Graham Fitkin add energy and rhythmic brilliance from a recent concert series championing bold composers of recent years, "Great Brits".
