The series opens with music from Diana Krall, Billie Holiday, Nat 'King' Cole and Dee Dee Bridgewater plus instrumental gold from vibes man Lionel Hampton's all-star band and trumpeter Charlie Shavers with Sy Oliver and his Orchestra. Moira also pays a belated 90th Birthday tribute to singer Tony Bennett who was born on 03 August 1926 with this week's featured album. Recorded in London and released in 1972, The Best Things In Life is one of Tony's most highly regarded recordings of his long and successful career. Accompanied by his trio consisting of pianist John Bunch, bassist Arthur Watts and drummer Kenny Clare, the album also features the glorious sound of arranger Robert Farnon and his Orchestra who are heard on songs including London By Night, Midnight Sun and The Best Things In Life.
