Top Ten Physicists

Adam Walton chats to Dr Rhodri Evans, of Cardiff School of Physics and Astronomy, about the new book "10 Physicists Who Transformed Our Understanding Of Reality".
The idea for the book came about following the publication in 2013 of The Observer's list of top ten physicists, which sparked an idea with Rhodri to create a series of potted biographies of some of the most famous names in science.

The original list:
  • 1 Isaac Newton
  • 2 Niels Bohr
  • 3 Galileo Galilei
  • 4 Albert Einstein
  • 5 James Clerk Maxwell
  • 6 Michael Faraday
  • 7 Marie Curie
  • 8 Richard Feynman
  • 9 Ernest Rutherford
  • 10 Paul Dirac

For the book Rhodri joined forces with award winning science writer Brian Clegg, and they re-arranged the list into chronological order to create a more logical progression through four centuries of scientific research and discovery.
Rhodri offers some alternative names for the Top Ten, and suggests who he would drop from the original Observer list.

"10 Physicists Who Transformed Our Understanding Of Reality" by Rhodri Evans and Brian Clegg is published by Robinson.
