Men Who Sing

Tim Samuels with the Men's Hour New Year special - Men Who Sing. Politicians, Arab Spring rappers, homeless men and football fans, united in song, and preview the music of 2013.

Men Who Sing is the theme of the Men's Hour New Year special. We hear the incredible story of the Castrati - men who were castrated to preserve their unique voices. Jon Holmes discovers how a football chant gets started and we start a Men's Hour chant of our own. In Westminster, We get conservative and liberal democrat men together in a coalition choir, getting them to sing a Lieder for their Leader. We meet rappers inspired by the Arab Spring. And in Birmingham and London, members of the 'Choir with No Name' for the homeless tell us how singing changed their lives.
