Roots Manuva 'Tweet In'

British hip hop pioneer Roots Manuva takes control of Now Playing @6Music, collaborating with his fans via Twitter to build a playlist of inspirations, influences, and favourites.

British hip hop pioneer Roots Manuva takes control of Now Playing @6Music, collaborating with his fans via Twitter to build a playlist of inspirations, influences, and current favourites. Hailing from Stockwell, South London, Roots - or Rodney Smith to his family - first shot to fame in the late 90s, releasing a striong of killer singles on Coldcut's Big Dada imprint.

His sophomore album Run Come Save Me thrust him into the public eye with Witness and Dreamy Days, trailblazing a path for a new wave of UK hip hop artists. Since then Roots has carved a niche as the elder statesmen of British hip hop, collaborating with DJ Shadow, Toddla T, Gorillaz and many more.

His new album 4everevolution markes a return to a more commercial, electronic sound, but still keeping his distinctively British lyrics and flow. In this edition of Now Playing, Roots plays a selection of his favourite tunes from the last three decades and collaborates online with the audience using Twitter to shape the rest of the playlist in real time. There's also a selection of the best music streaming right now, and in the final 30 mins, another blogger hijacks the show to play a selection of tunes generating a buzz online.
