Dvorak, Martinu, Grieg, Janacek - Part 2

Episode 2 of 3

Presented by Petroc Trelawny, from the Royal Albert Hall. John Eliot Gardiner conducts the Czech Philharmonic and pianist Lars Vogt in Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor.

Live from the Royal Albert Hall, London

Presented by Petroc Trelawny

Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the visiting Czech Philharmonic Orchestra frame their programme with Dvorak's ebullient, life-affirming Carnival Overture and his radiant 8th Symphony. In between, Martinu's 6th Symphony dances with Czech and Moravian folk melodies and rhythms; there's a detour to the Norwegian fjords for Grieg's Piano Concerto with Lars Vogt; and back to the Moravian Janacek whose gentle Ballad of Blanik was inspired by recent Czech independence and the new nation's legendary guardians.
