Rossini: La donna del lago

In a performance given in Geneva, American mezzo-soprano performs the title role in Rossini's La donna del lago, the first opera to be based on the writings of Sir Walter Scott.

Rossini's La donna del lago is the first opera to be based on the writings of Sir Walter Scott - there were to be many more! The Lady of the Lake tells of the battles between highland and lowland Scots and the love of three of the warring men for Elena - the lady of the opera's title. This performance was recorded recently in Geneva and stars the American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.
