The subject of almost this entire programme is Artie Shaw, bandleader, clarinet virtuoso, songwriter, author and music pundit. We hear three of his compositions, four of his vocalists and five of his bands as well as one of his wives - Ava Gardner (in a rare out-take from Showboat). Other songs associated with Artie are sung by Eydie GormÃ(c) and Daryl Sherman.

Also in the programme, a new release by singer-bassist Nicki Parrott, a version of Alan Sherman's You Gotta Have Skin by John Lithgow and a review of a new release by cabaret artist Joyce Breach.
