Ten Pieces Guide to the Orchestra: Free Ebook

Download a video-rich interactive guide to the orchestra for all age groups that complements Ten Pieces.

Barney Harwood from Blue Peter introduces the families of instruments, and professional musicians from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales explain how their instruments work and make sounds.

Children can test their knowledge with fun quizzes and learn some basics about music notation in an interactive game with the motif from Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Unusual facts about the instruments will engage young readers.

What is an interactive ebook?

An ebook is an interactive multimedia digital book designed to be viewed on tablets – including Android, Apple iPad and Kindle Fire HD. It can also be viewed on Mac computers with OS X Mavericks.

How can I download it?

If you are an Apple user, the free interactive ebooks are available in the iBooks store. You can download them from your iPad or via the iTunes desktop application (version 11.1.3 or later is required) with your iTunes account login information.

If you are a Kindle Fire HD user, the free interactive ebooks are available from Amazon. You can download them from your Kindle with your Amazon account (Kindle Fire HD tablets and up).

If you are an Android tablet user, you can download the free interactive apps from the Google Play store.

This ebook is available within the UK.

How can I view this interactive ebook?

iPads users: You must have an iPad with iBooks 3 or later and iOS 5.1 or later, or a Mac with iBooks 1.0 or later and OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) or later. If syncing via iTunes desktop application version 11.1.3 or later is required.

Kindle Fire HD users: You must have a Kindle Fire HD or up, running Android 4.0 and up.

Android tablet users: You must have Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and up.

Why isn’t it available on my phone?

The ebook content is intended for tablets and not suitable for smaller screens (phones) at this time.

Why isn’t it available on other platforms or my PC?

We are exploring a different platform (tablets) for delivering content to our audiences. At this time, the software used to make the ebooks does not publish to PCs. We are exploring ways to expand to more devices and platforms in the future.

I’m having trouble with the games in the Guide to the Orchestra ebook. What can I do?

If the games are appearing larger than your screen, triple tap on the game page to resize to fit your screen.

If you are seeing an error message or the games are not loading, go to settings, then applications, and force quit the Ten Pieces app. When you reopen the Ten Pieces app, the games should load correctly.
