Vic Galloway – A Festive Fifty - My Favourite Albums of 2014

Vic's Festive Fifty

Ah yes, it’s the end of the year and here’s yet another list for you to mull over. Time to add even more information and internet white-noise. Having said that, it’s my job and my pleasure to listen to piles of music all year and here’s a summing up of my 12 months of… ahem… hard slog! This is only a list of MY favourite 50 albums, so why not add your favourites and have your say - you know you want to.

As ever with me there’s indie, punk, rock, acoustic, electronic, psychedelic, classical, jazz and world music in here; some of which you’ll know, some you won’t - all of which are worth investigating at your leisure. Dig deep and enjoy on vinyl, CD, cassette or countless digital formats - it’s the music and the ideas therein that count. I hope you get some inspiration.

Album of the year:

Then in alphabetical order:

That list of 50 was narrowed down from nearly 100, so some other honourable mentions must go to: Adult Jazz, Allah Las, Ballet School, Beck, Bob Mould, Chris Devotion & the Expectations, Flying Lotus, Fucked Up, Future Islands, Holy Mountain, Hookworms, John Knox Sex Club, Kate Tempest, Lana Del Rey, Mac DeMarco, Moodoid, Painted Palms, Peggy Sue, Red Snapper, Rustie, Sabina, Slow Club, Sohn, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Syd Arthur, The Hazey Janes, The War on Drugs, The Young Sinclairs, Ultimate Painting, Warpaint, Wild Beasts and White Fence for many more ace albums in 2014.

And if I have to choose a single of the year, I would probably go for this chirpy, little, family-friendly ditty from my favourite LIVE band of the year:

Fat White Family – Touch the Leather (Hate Hate Hate Records)

Merry Christmas, Happy Hogmanay and all the best for 2015!
