BBC Norman Beaton Fellowship Winners 2017

Radio Drama is delighted to announce that 2017's three winners are:


Ellie came to the event via a workshop with the Birmingham Rep, Katherine via The Other Room, Cardiff, and David via a workshop with Theatre Bristol. They all join the Radio Drama Company on Saturday 22nd July 2017, along with this year’s BBC Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award winners Abbie Andrews, Isabella Inchbald, Gary Duncan, Adam Fitzgerald and Tayla Kovacevic-Ebong.

This year, the judges awarded two runners-up prizes to NBF finalists. Their names and the theatres through whose workshops they joined NBF 2017 are below:

HELEN CLAPP – Theatre Royal Stratford East
PAUL CUNNINGHAM – Citizens Theatre, Glasgow

Each of them will be cast via a freelance engagement in one of Radio Drama's 2017 productions.

This year, ten theatre companies from around the UK joined forces with Radio Drama in workshopping talent new to Radio: Theatre Bristol, Eclipse Theatre, Kabosh Belfast, The Other Room Cardiff, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Citizens Theatre Glasgow, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Talawa Theatre Company, Tamasha Theatre Company and the National Youth Theatre Rep.

From the many actors who took part, 12 finalists were auditioned on 21st March 2017 at Broadcasting House London by this year's judges who were Peter Kavanagh (Drama Producer and Chair), Gemma Jenkins (Drama Producer), Sandra Boyce (agent), David Yip (actor) and Rebecca Wilmshurst (Drama Production Executive).
