Ten Pieces Party Live Lesson

Exploring the building blocks of composition

Join us for a very special Ten Pieces Party Live Lesson coming live to schools all around the UK from BBC Hoddinott Hall in the Wales Millennium Centre.

Featuring the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and special guests from the field of music, the lesson is aimed at Key Stage 2/2nd Level students.

Geared towards students with little or no musical experience, the Live Lesson aims to provide them with simple tools and skills to try out musical composition for themselves.

It explores aspects of rhythm, melody, tempo and dynamics through three of the pieces from both Ten Pieces I and Ten Pieces II: Bernstein's 'Mambo' from Symphonic Dances from 'West Side Story', Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 4 (3rd movement) and Mussorgsky's A Night on the Bare Mountain.

Throughout the lesson, students will be invited to participate in interactive activities to help them understand the basic building blocks of music. Together, we'll be getting creative and composing our very own Ten Pieces party piece.
