1Xtra Live Monologues: Manchester, Writers Workshop

BBC Writersroom and BBC Radio 1Xtra are joining forces to develop and produce six short films, written by you, as part of Radio 1Xtra Live 2017.

If you’re an aspiring Manchester-based writer, aged 18-30, and have a passion for music and your city, then this is aimed directly at you!

This is your chance to bring bold and original ideas to life, develop fresh characters and you could even have your words performed and filmed by professionals and shown on 1Xtra social media as well performed at a Live Showcase.

  • How To Be A Hit on Social Media (1130-1230)

    Many artists don’t understand how social media can help them succeed when used in the right way. In this session, hosted by Reece Parkinson, social media expert Ayaz Hussain shares his top tips on helping music artists build their reputation, grow their brand and heighten their impact.   • How To Succeed In The Industry: Women In Media (1230-1330)

    Jamz Supernova and industry insiders reveal how they dream big but stay true to themselves. This event is open to girls/women only. Today women’s career choices are far more diverse than they were for our grandmothers but how can we continue that progression into broadcasting? With this panel of female bosses we’ll focus on how to secure success in radio and music and to push that envelope even further.

  • How To Break Into Radio (1330-1415)

    Join in this session (hosted by Reece Parkinson) to learn what goes on behind the scenes at Radio 1Xtra. The presenter is the mouthpiece of the show but there’s a hidden team behind them including producers, researchers, online support and visualisation crews. What are these jobs, what does it take to work at the station and how can you get your foot in the door? Could you be the one they’re looking for? (Capacity: 70)

  • DIY Generation Manchester Special (1630-1730)

    1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova takes her weekly feature DIY generation on tour. She’ll be speaking to three DIY Generationers on their journeys on setting up and running their own business. (Capacity: 70)

  • How To Present Like A Pro (1415-1500)

    After 15 years in the business 1Xtra’s Ace has seen it all. Join him for this intimate and informative presenting masterclass.Presenting is not as easy as just standing in front of a microphone and reading an autocue. Staying at the top of your game takes work and planning. How do you best prepare for big interviews, how do you deal with nerves and how do you find your voice in a crowded market? (Capacity: 20)

  • Ace in conversation with Donae'o (1500-1600)

    Producer, song-writer and vocalist Donae’o is a legend in the UK underground scene. Join 1Xtra's Ace for this intimate and in depth Q&A with Donae'o. The performer who created hits like ‘I’m Fly’, ‘Party Hard’ and ‘Lock Doh’ will give an insight into his creative processes, collaborations and the ups and downs of fame.
