Sheila
Hancock to star in CBBC drama Feather Boy
CBBC
Controller Dorothy Prior has commissioned an adaptation of Feather
Boy, the debut novel by Nicky Singer, and winner of the 2002 Blue
Peter Book of the Year.
The
adaptation will star Sheila Hancock, Lindsey
Coulson, Ronald Pickup, Aaron
Johnson and Thomas Sangster.
Feather
Boy is the story of Robert Nobel – a boy who is the butt of
classroom jokes and victim of Niker, the class bully.
When
Robert visits a local home for the elderly as part of a school project
and meets Edith Sorrell, an old lady with a tragic past, he embarks
on a series of events that will change their lives forever.
The
debut novel of author Nicky Singer won critical acclaim, and has
been adapted for television by Peter Tabern, winner of an International
Emmy and the BAFTA Children's Writer Award for his adaptation of
Stig of the Dump for CBBC in 2001.
Executive
produced for the BBC by Elaine Sperber, Feather Boy goes into production
in London in July.
It
is being produced for CBBC by Childsplay Television and the writer
and producer is Peter Tabern, the director is Dermot Boyd, and production
designer is Jason Carlin.
All the
BBC's digital services are now available on Freeview,
the new free-to-view digital terrestrial television service, as well
as on satellite and cable.
Freeview
offers the BBC's eight television channels, interactive services
from BBCi, as well as 11 BBC radio networks.
