Black History Month runs nation-wide throughout October. Below are a list of events taking place in Northamptonshire to celebrate black heritage.

When? Friday, 1st October, 7.30pm
What? Black Arts Consortium and
borough council of Wellingborough presents the Black History Month Launch with a showcase of Wellingborough's local community acts.
Venue: The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough.
Price: Free but you will need to book your tickets at the box office 01933 270007.

When? Saturday, 2nd October, 2pm to 3pm.
What? Visual artist Philomena Francis presents her exhibited work 'Brown Sugar Series' and talks about her role as an artist, the type of work she does and her thoughts and ideas around the work exhibited.
Venue: The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough.
Price: Free.

When? Wednesday, 6th October, 7pm to 9pm.
What? Shangwe Creative Writing workshop for black & dual-heritage women of African & African-Caribbean descent. The sessions run for eight weeks.
Venue: African-Caribbean Association, Rock Street, Wellingborough.

When? Tuesday, 12th October, 2pm to 5pm.
What? Animation workshop for age group 13yrs+. Have a go at producing your own animated film in the style of PJs, Wallace & Gromett or Southpark.
Venue: The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough

When? Wednesday, 13th October, 7:30pm.
What? Wordworks Live Literature Programme presents: Patrick Augustus author of the groundbreaking and controversial BBC program 'Babyfather', who'll talk about his life as an author, his inspiration for the series and the messages behind the text.
Venue: Wellingborough Library

What? 'Who Wants To Be a Nubiannaire?'
Black History Quiz Evening.
Venue: The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough.

When? Thursday, 21st October, 6:30pm to 8.30pm.
What? 'Mind, Body, Spirit' - Health Workshop.
Venue: Wellingborough African-Caribbean Association, Rock Street, Wellingborough.
Price: Free

When? Saturday, 23rd October, 6.30pm to 2am.
What? Community Award Ceremony / Dinner & Dance.
Venue: Wellingborough African-Caribbean Association, Rock Street, Wellingborough.
Price: £15.00

When? Monday, 25th October, 2pm to 5pm.
What? Black Film Screening:
Film 1: 'Coming to England' drama adaptation of Floella Benjamin's acclaimed book. A moving story of the journey of a 10-year-old from Trinidad to England in the early 60s. (1 hour)
Film 2: 'A Great & Mighty Walk'. Produced and narrated by Wesley Snipes, this film chronicles the life and times of African-American historian John Henrik Clarke. Clarke brings together 5,000 years of black history from Egypt to the Civil Rights Movement in the US. (90 minutes)
Venue: The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough.

When? Saturday, 30th October, 8:30pm.
What? Big Deep Roots Black History Month Finale featuring Mabulu (Mozambique) nu-generation African band fusing traditional roots with rap & hip-hop.
Venue: The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough.
