Work has begun to try and stop the effects of flooding in parts of Somerset in south-west England.

Special big pipes are being installed to help rainwater drain away more quickly.

It's just part of a 20 year plan to try and stop the effects of flooding in the area.

Last winter, large parts of Somerset were severely flooded, leaving a whole village cut off for two months.

Some kids in Muchelney even had to go to school by boat and kayak.

The BBC's Clinton Rogers watched the building work start.
