Former JLS band member, Aston Merrygold has signed a solo record deal with Warner Brothers Records. Newsround looks at other artists who started their careers in a group.
Justin Timberlake's not crying any rivers - each of his albums have sold over seven million copies worldwide and he's one of the most successful singers of the decade. His career began on the kids TV shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, but he rose to fame as the youngest member of the boy band *NSYNC. They enjoyed global success with hits including 'Pop', Bye Bye Bye' and 'This I Promise You'.
We're all in 'Crazy Stupid Love' with Cheryl Cole and this year the singer claimed her fourth solo Number 1 single. The X Factor judge is only the third British female in history to achieve that level of chart success, alongside Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora. Cheryl started her career as one fifth of the girl band Girls Aloud, who were formed on a TV show called Pop Stars: The Rivals.
Robbie Williams rose to fame in the band Take That in the 1990s. After many disagreements with the management and other group members, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald, Robbie left the group. In 1995 he launched a massively successful solo career, which saw his first seven albums each reach Number 1 in the UK. He joined Take That again from 2009 for an album and a tour. From one X Factor judge to another - Nicole Scherzinger. After performing in rock band Days of the New and reaching one-hit wonder success with teen-pop girl group Eden's Crush, she signed up as the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls, who had hits with 'Don't Cha', 'Stickwitu' and 'Buttons'.

He's also the lead vocalist and drummer of rock, funk, and hip hop band N.E.R.D. Pharrell's earned seven Grammy Awards including two with The Neptunes.
