The Netherlands thrashed Spain 5-1. Spain took the lead with a penalty from Alonso but Manchester United's Robin van Persie opened the floodgates with a wonderful header.
Arjen Roben and Stefan de Vrij also got on the score sheet - a result that sent shockwaves through world football.
Meanwhile Mexico had a closer match with Cameroon winning 1-0.
And the South American nation of Chile scored three fabulous goals to thrash Australia 3-1.
