Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall made an unusual friend when they arrived in the Australian Outback - a kangaroo!

Camilla met orphaned 12-month-old 'Ruby Blue' during a visit to a rural settlement in Longreach.

The roo, wrapped in a cloth bag (just like her mother's pouch) was cuddled by the Duchess who joked: "There's a first time for everything."

The royal couple have already visited Papua New Guinea as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee tour.

During the next two weeks they will also visit New Zealand.
