Check out these amazing prize-winning photographs from the 2011 National Geographic Photo Contest. Which one's your favourite?
The photos were judged in different categories, with this snap by Kent Shiraishi getting an honourable mention in the nature section. It's a blue pond in Japan with the first snow of winter on the trees.

Marius Coetzee was leading a safari in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, Africa. It was midday and he came across a herd of zebra heading to a water hole to for a drink, so Marius took the opportunity to snap away.

This is American space shuttle Endeavour launching into orbit - James Vernacotola was 115 miles from the Kennedy Space Centre, where it launched from, and left his camera's lens open for 132 seconds to get this amazing photo.

Wow, what clear water! Beaming above is a beautiful rainbow in the Palawan Islands in the Philippines, Asia. George Tapan's photo came top in the 'places' category with this pic.

Check out these prize-winning photos from the 2011 National Geographic Photo Contest. This is the grand prize winner - a snap of a dragonfly taken in Indonesia in Asia - by Shikhei Goh. He'll be receiving his winner's prize in January.
