Manchester United and Manchester City have both been booted out of the Champions League at the group stage.

United needed a draw on Wednesday night, but suffered an humiliating 2-1 loss to Basel.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men have made the final three times in the past four years.

Manchester City beat Bayern Munich 2-0. But Napoli's victory over Villarreal in the same group means City don't go through.

Both United and City will now play in the Europa League.

"It is embarrassing to be in the Europa League," said Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

"I play for Manchester United to play in the Champions League. I feel I will wake up and we will have qualified. But it is not a dream it is the reality."
