Check out these designs for electricity pylons of the future.
Electricity pylons. they're not exactly the most beautiful things the British countryside has to offer. So the Royal Institute of British Architects and the National Grid launched a competition to make them look much better. Here are the designs they're considering...
The competition is to design a 21st century pylon, because the UK is going to need to make a lot more electricity as the population grows.
Hundreds of kilometres of new power lines will be needed to bring electricity from new, more environmentally friendly, sources.
There are more than 88,000 pylons in the UK, including 22,000 on National Grid’s main transmission network in England and Wales.
The design of the pylons has barely changed in more than 90 years - we reckon they're definitely due an update!
The winner of the competition gets £10,000, and though it's not promised that their design will get used, the government says it will be one of the main options.
The six shortlisted designs will be on display at the V&A museum in London until 5 October.
