Asafa Powell, the fastest man in the world this season over 100m, will miss the event at the World Championships.

He's the biggest rival for defending champion Usain Bolt, but his agent said a groin injury means he won't be running this weekend.

"He's out of the 100m but he hopes to be back for the 4x100m relay," his agent said.

Powell managed to get a world season lead of 9.78 seconds at the Lausanne Diamond League in early July.

Only Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay have ever run faster than that.

With Tyson Gay and Jamaican Steve Mullings also out of the race, Bolt will be free of his main competition for the race.

Powell's agent said: "He's got to now concentrate for next year and the Olympics. It's just bad luck, nothing else. At those speeds, you ask a lot of your body."
