Scientist gets too close to boiling lava lake

Most people would run the other way if they saw boiling lava running their way - but this scientist has other ideas.

He's trying to get a lava sample from Mount Nyiragongo in Africa's Great Rift Valley, but gets too close to the boiling lake.

Luckily Dr Dario Tedesco was on hand to let him know that danger was quickly approaching!

Mount Nyiragongo is one of the most active volcanoes on earth.

Collecting lava samples gives scientists really important information about what's going on deep inside the planet.

It's all part of a new BBC programme about volcanoes called Richard Hammond's Journey To... The Centre of the Planet. It's Richard you can hear doing the commentary in the clip.
