UK man in starring Bollywood movie role
A man from Shipley has landed a major role in a Bollywood movie.
Jan Bostock, originally from West Yorkshire, moved to India six years ago.
Last year he was approached by a Bollywood film director who was looking for English people to be extras in his new movie
We Live and Play with all our Hearts is based on the Chittagong Uprising, a little-known chapter of history that took place in British-ruled India.
But Mr Bostock ended up being more than an extra in the film, ending up as the star villain.
The film was shot in Mumbai and Goa and also stars Bollywood big names Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.
Jan said: "I was to be shot and killed in the first scene as the revolution begins.
"After a couple of days on set, and having got my own caravan, I thought how well they treated their extras. I thought that was nice.
"I mentioned this to the director, Ashutosh Govarker, over dinner and he said, 'You're not an extra, you're the key villain.
"That really shocked me. Some of India's biggest stars are in the film."
"I have quite a few lines in the film and I tried my best."
Future Bollywood star
Jan said since then he has been offered roles in another couple of films.
His only previous acting experience was in a school play at Nab Wood Grammar School, where he played the role of the scarecrow in a production of The Wizard of Oz.
He set up a home care business in Shipley then moved to Goa with his wife and two children where he now runs a business offering healthcare packages and a guesthouse.
Based on a book called Do And Die by Manini Chatterjee, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is based on the real-life events of one April night in 1930 in the sleepy port of Chittagong, in the Bengal region, where a band of fearless young men, led by an idealistic school teacher, brought terror to the British Raj with a series of attacks on strongholds.
The film explores the revolutionaries' underground movement, leading to the dramatic attacks, daring escapes and violent captures.
The film is due to be released worldwide on 3 December.
